Maria Rubinke Sculptures

I'M FASCINATED BY THESE HAND-MADE SCULPTURES BY RUBINKE. THEY BRING A MORBID FANTASY TO THE TYPE OF PRECIOUS DOLLS MANY OF US WOULD HAVE OWNED AS CHILDREN, WITH THE DELICATE PINKS AND GOLD COLOURING ADDING TO THE SENSE OF INNOCENCE, YET TEAMED WITH THE HORRIFIC GORINESS OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE FIGURE.
“Danish-born Maria Rubinke’s small porcelain figures are reminiscent of the illogical compositions of surrealism, transforming the character of what are traditionally charming and passive objects into expressions of more taboo feelings that oscillate between desire and sadism.”

new things!

SO I WENT TO LONDON FOR THE DAY YESTERDAY TO SEE MY DAD AND SISTER FOR LUNCH, AND THEN HEADED OFF TO WESTFIELD FOR A LITTLE SHOPPING SESSION. SPRING IS DEFINITELY IN MIND AND I WANTED SOME BRIGHT COLOURS TO GET AWAY FROM ALL THE BORING BLACK/GREY/BROWN OF WINTER.
